How to Start Your Own Food Blog

Hello to all Dash readers!!! In this article, I am going to discuss how to start your own food blog! It is a very short, simple, step-by step article into how to set this up quickly and professionally without anyone’s help but your own..and me of course haha! The steps will be choosing your domain name, hosting, security, money, theme, wordpress, and adding content to your blog.

Also, I have written an in depth course about how to start your own food blog from start to finish. Go to the description to see why that course will be different from this blog. This will be added to my Dash of Charm course section soon. Now, let’s get started!

FIRST STEP: Choose a domain

What is a domain name you ask?

It is the name of your website. If you are starting a blog or business, do research on this name before you choose it! It’s important to do research on your domain name because if you are choosing a certain category, you don’t want someone to have the same name as yours and confuse your blog or business. Get your domain name at  Go Daddy, Blue Host, or  Name Cheap.

SECOND STEP: Pick a Host

Next, Hosting is the company or person that lays the ground work for your website. Coding and computer analogy gets really technical and if you don’t know how to set it up yourself, I suggest saving yourself the time and just paying the $7.00-$8.00 a month. Get set up with Go Daddy or Blue Host to choose hosting the right hosting for you! No matter what, choose WordPress hosting every time. WordPress hosting is the easiest and fastest way to get started!

By the way, you will have to pay for your domain and hosting. If you choose to get a domain and hosting yearly (which I highly recommend), It will come out to approximately $150.00(a year), however Go Daddy and Blue Host normally have coupons and deals so be sure to check online for them at retailmenot.

In addition, security certificates are also suggested, but this is optional (especially if you’re tight on money). I ran my website for an entire year before adding a security certificate on mine. However, If you are going to be selling products immediately on your food blog, then I would recommend getting that right away.

THIRD STEP: Get Fun and Creative

After you’ve connected your hosting account to Worpress, when you log on, pick a theme first! There are free themes on WordPress, but I purchased mine with Avada theme. This is completely optional but Avada theme really has a wide range of options for all types of business’. I highly recommend customizing the website to make It look like your own. When customizing, try to add as much as your own pictures, videos, etc. for your blog. Typically, when It looks too professional and you are not a huge corporation, you don’t have the manpower to keep up with It as much. Make your website authentic and your own. It will stand out this way.

FOURTH STEP: What you need to know

Lastly, WordPress offers many options to customize your site, everything from changing your footer, header, menu, etc. WordPress has plugins and there are a lot of plugins that are free. Plugins are like apps for the internet on WordPress that make It easier for your to be able to run your website. There are a lot of different plugins so I only recommend downloading the ones you really need as your Wordpress can get cluttered easily with too many. The main sidebars that you’ll be using will be your media, pages, and posts. This is how you will input your content.

FIFTH STEP: Add your beautiful and creative content

Food blogging means something different for everyone. You can be a food blogger and love to try different food at restaurants and blog about it. Otherwise, you could be like me here at Dash of Charm that cooks your own recipes from scratch. Whichever route you chose to go, I highly recommend starting with something immediate and important for all bloggers- affiliate marketing.
